Some drivers may choose to disregard the safety of others while they are on the roadways. As a result, they may participate in reckless behaviors that can lead to serious accidents. Reckless driving can often lead to crashes that cause innocent victims to suffer fatal injuries.
It was recently reported that a fatal incident in Colorado was caused by reckless behavior. Apparently, a 32-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were racing on a public street when the woman’s vehicle collided with the side of another vehicle. The two racing were reportedly traveling over 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. It was also noted that a child was riding in the car with the woman.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. He was reported as being 64 years old. The woman and child also suffered minor injuries in the accident. It was unclear whether the other racer was also involved in the crash, but nonetheless, both he and the woman were taken into custody on charges of vehicular homicide.
Recklessness can often lead to fatal injuries, and the family of the man killed in this Colorado accident may find it comforting to know that the individuals involved are facing criminal charges. However, they may also want to consider their civil legal options. They may have reason to file a wrongful death claim against the parties considered at fault for the incident in hopes of seeking compensation for damages resulting from the incident. If the individuals are convicted of the charges they face, those convictions may be presented as evidence in a related civil claim.
